When it comes to weight loss, the thing I hear most from my clients is that they struggle with not being able to stick to their plan.

So they fall back into their old habits.

And by doing so they think that they have failed yet again and give up.

They think that something is wrong with them.

They don’t have enough willpower, they weren’t disciplined enough, the diet or meal plan was wrong for them. They feel like a failure, they feel embarrassed, broken, shameful and then they eat more because that is what they do. Eat their emotions.

But this is not how we should feel. But, I, like you, have felt this way for decades when I was trying to lose weight. When I was trying to stop snacking and nighttime munching. When I was trying to follow a diet or meal plan. I felt like a loser because I just couldn’t make it stick and kept falling back into my old routines.

I often hear that consistency is the problem, but that’s not the problem.

We have no trouble being consistent with snacking during the day to distract us from what we are feeling.

We have not trouble being consistent with nighttime munching.

We have no trouble being consistent with negative self talk.

What we have an issue with is that we lack the skills to not eat when we are not hungry.

We lack the skills to not eat when we are bored, tired, stressed, or any emotional state that makes us feel uncomfortable so we eat for comfort.

It’s not another diet, or meal plan or more willpower or deprivation that we need. It’s the skills to bridge the gap between the consistent habits we have now which is causing weight gain to the consistent skills we need to lose the weight for good.

Here are some tips for you…..

I see women struggle with perfection – one mistake and they throw in the towel on their weight loss journey.

So, ditch perfection!!  Develop the skill and the mindset to let go of perfection. Mistakes are going to happen, so learn from them and see what skills you need in order to move past the current struggle.

Do Less. I see women trying to revamp their entire diet / lifestyle at once. We have that “all or nothing” mindset. I did too. Until I learned the power of simple shifts, time and patience. I was always in a hurry to get to the finish line but I’m not anymore and it’s so freeing.

Stop expecting instant gratification. Listen, I’ll be the first to tell you that I wanted instant results and that is why I felt so tortured for so long. What is wrong with me? Why aren’t I succeeding like everyone else? I’m such a failure.

My advice…..Slow down. It might take months or years longer than you expect. And that’s OK. You will get there. I’ve witnessed it with my clients. Those that are willing to let go of perfection, do less and slow down, get the results they wanted, and they STICK. They get it long -term. NO more yo-yo’ing.

Be honest with yourself. Recently one of my clients was telling me how much she enjoyed getting into bed, turning on the TV and enjoying her popcorn and wine. She felt so relaxed, and it made her happy.

So, I asked her some questions and the rest of the story goes like this.

She wakes up feeling lousy, bloated, heavy, resentful and ashamed of how much she ate and drank.

I asked her why she wasn’t being honest with herself and only focusing on one part of her story. It's because we don’t want to focus on the shitty parts, it’s because we don’t want to admit that stuff because it makes us feel bad and we feel stuck because we don’t know how to change.

The thing is, I said to her I’m not going to take your wine and popcorn away from you because we all know that deprivation does not work ….and to learn more about this, you can join the    “How to SNACK to your Advantage– Your Key to Permanent Weight Loss”.

This is for women over 40 who are struggling with snacking during the day and in the evening and needs support with how to snack properly so that they can lose weight permanently.

One thing I’ve learned is that if you take what women love away from them, resistance builds up and this can promote bingeing as well as feelings that negatively affect self-worth. But what about learning that you CAN eat your favourite things while still having a positive affect on your health and weight loss.

I’m a wife and mum, personal trainer, fitness/pilates instructor, Behaviour Change Specialist, Nutrition Coach, Pain-Free Movement Specialist, author of Cookie Dough in the Dark, creator of Vibrant Living Membership - your ONE STOP shop for movement + nutrition + mindset..... among many other things!!  I’ve had many issues dealing with the scale going up and down, a muffin top that wouldn’t disappear, emotional eating binges that did not involve carrots and struggling with insecurity! Through all of this I just wanted to feel normal. I wanted to be happy like everyone else!

In my teens and 20’s I wanted the quick fixes, the magic pills, the fairy dust – whatever I could get my hands on to make me a lean, happy and sexy machine. Yup, found out it doesn’t exist. I wanted to cry!! I was so frustrated. I felt like I was going around and around until I was completely exhausted and back at the starting point. And when I talk with other women they feel that way too. So, I delved further into holistic health – the emotional, mental and physical – wrote a book, and have been in this field for many years helping 1000’s of women.

I discovered that by being smarter, not working harder, I could get the results I wanted and also for my clients. It started with some really small shifts that I will share with you over time. With this new knowledge, I felt ALIVE, VIBRANT and COMFORTABLE in my own skin. And my clients felt this way too!

My mission is to continue to help women step into the body they WANT. To feel confident & sexy, in control of their food choices and have their clothes fit just as they should while having the energy to live a VIBRANT life.
